Succubus Revealed Chapter 16

The following week was one of the longest in my life. Each second that passed was a second without Seth and another update that I'd lost my one incredible love. Regardless of whether I hadn't quit as Santa's partner, that activity would've been done now in any case, so my days were made considerably longer by their vacancy. Hugh was over a great deal that week, and now and then he and Roman attempted to brighten me up or possibly divert me. For the most part, they were stayed together, taking a shot at my intrigue to Hell. They once in a while counseled me on it, however Hugh had a large portion of the information he required and basically needed to assemble it all in the fitting way. Both of them talked about different things as well, for the most part having to do with Hell's legitimate framework by and large. I didn't totally get why, however Roman was exceptionally resolute about learning everything about it. It resembled he was attempting to beat the law oriented test or something. I attempted to distract myself with pressing for Las Vegas. Indeed, even with my intrigue, I was unable to rely on anything changing with my current Hellish status. In this way, I needed to go ahead with life as if Vegas were unquestionably in my future. Pressing was thoughtless enough, in any case, that it didn't occupy me to such an extent as simply give more opportunity to me to ruminate and obsess about being separated from Seth. Pressing additionally had its own traps since I continued running into things that helped me to remember him. The most exceedingly terrible was the point at which I uncovered a crate of tokens gathered from throughout the hundreds of years. The latest expansion was a ring Seth had given me last Christmas, not long before we separated. It was a cutting edge bend on a Byzantine wedding band, brightened with dolphins and sapphires. In any event, when we'd reunited, I'd left it in the case. Much to his dismay that I additionally had †in a similar box †my real wedding band from the fifth century. It was worn with age yet hadn't altogether lost its sparkle. Taking a gander at them both gave me a strange snapshot of confusion as I attempted to get a handle on the possibility that they'd actually been given to me by a similar individual. During that week, I likewise got a decent lot of email from the Las Vegas team. Phoebe, Bastien, Luis, and even Matthias had kept in contact since my visit, and all appeared to have expanded their energy over my pending move. Messages I would have found so clever and contacting seven days prior now left an awful preference for my mouth, since I knew reality with regards to the exchange. Luis was just assisting with arranging Hell's amazing arrangement to keep me and Seth separated, and I didn't believe a solitary word he said. In any case, he was an evil spirit, and one could anticipate a specific measure of untrustworthiness from him. Phoebe and particularly Bastien hurt more since they were working under the falsification of fellowship. I didn't question Bastien was as yet my companion, however all that he sent me appeared to be constrained, since it was originating from the sets of those above him. Matthias was somewhat of a puzzle. I didn't have the foggiest idea what job he played here, on the off chance that he was only a helpful human they'd found to take me on or on the off chance that he was allied with Hell. Numerous people purposely were, with expectations of affected rewards sometime in the future. For all I knew, he could be an honest in this, only a standard person who thought he'd got lucky in finding an artist. Without having the option to state without a doubt, I rejoiced in light of his messages either. Eminently absent from the Las Vegas posse's correspondence was Jamie. I'd got no inviting â€Å"Can't stand by to see you!† messages at all from him, something I associated was likewise an immediate outcome with Hell's requests. They wouldn't have any desire to hazard the subject of Milton once more. At the point when I referenced this to Roman and Hugh, they disclosed to me it would be amazing if Jamie was even still in Las Vegas. On the off chance that Hell considered him to be an obligation that may coincidentally uncover the twofold agreement mess, Hugh felt the chances were acceptable they'd just expelled him to keep me from discovering him. Assuming this is the case, I trusted it was just an issue of an exchange and that the demon hadn't been rebuffed for shakily uncovering data he didn't understand was risky. On New Year's Eve, Hugh and Roman revealed to me my request was done. They introduced it to me, an amazingly gigantic heap of paper loaded up with legalese, and gave me where to indication. There was a demeanor of both gravity and pride around them, similar to they'd quite recently made a carefully made masterpiece. Taking into account how uncommon this sort of occasion was, maybe that wasn't such a terrible evaluation. I gave the ream back to Hugh, when I'd marked it around multiple times. â€Å"Now what?† I inquired. â€Å"Now I take it to Mei and state you offered it to me to submit to Hell. I additionally guarantee numbness about what this is with respect to, yet the way that it experienced me warns her that there's an observer to everything. Not that she'd presumably ‘lose it' or anything, yet . . . all things considered, with devils, it's ideal to be cautious.† â€Å"Are they truly going to accept you're a hapless errand person ?† I inquired. Hugh screwy me a grin and signaled to the desk work. â€Å"Well, they absolutely won't trust you did this all alone. In any case, there's no genuine method to demonstrate my inclusion, and in any case, I haven't actually done anything incorrectly. I'm a devil. I lead business for Hell. That is the thing that this is.† An excessive number of long periods of repressed feeling grabbed hold of me, and I flung my arms around Hugh. â€Å"Thank you,† I said. â€Å"Thank you so much.† It was all sort of clumsy since he was attempting to shuffle the papers, yet he despite everything figured out how to congratulate me. â€Å"It's nothing, sweetie,† he stated, appearing to be somewhat bothered. â€Å"I simply trust it really achieves something.† I ventured back and endeavored to get myself leveled out. â€Å"How will we know whether it does?† â€Å"When you're gathered to Hell,† he said. â€Å"Oh.† My heart reeled with dread. â€Å"I really . . . all things considered need to go there?† Roman inclined toward the divider and folded his arms. â€Å"How else do you think this will get resolved?† â€Å"I'd sort of just trusted they'd send me a letter,† I said. â€Å"You know, similar to a school acceptance.† Hugh grunted. â€Å"Afraid not. On the off chance that they react to it, they'll bring you to Hell and hold a conference to inspect the agreement, your protests, and whatever proof either side can muster.† I folded my arms over myself, attempting to picture what that meeting would resemble. â€Å"I've never been to Hell. Have both of you?† They shook their heads, which wasn't a shock. Lesser immortals were enlisted on Earth, where they at that point served. We had no motivation to visit the domain of our managers, not so much as a devil like Hugh. Roman, as a nephilim, was on Heaven and Hell's hit list. Strolling into Hell would resemble appearing in a lion's nook and introducing yourself on a platter. â€Å"I consistently sort of imagined Hell as a cross between holding up in line at the DMV and viewing a long distance race of Perfect Strangers,† commented Hugh. Roman gave him a sharp look. â€Å"What's off with that show?† Survive, I embraced Hugh again and afterward Roman. â€Å"Thanks, you folks. I would not joke about this. I owe you . . . beyond what I can ever pay back.† â€Å"Just win,† said Roman wildly. â€Å"That's all the compensation I need.† Hugh put the papers into his folder case and slipped on his jacket. â€Å"I'm going to get these over to Mei now, at that point head off to a gathering and drink away the recollections of swimming through all that legalese.† â€Å"You're going to Peter's?† I inquired. Obviously, our vampire companion was holding a hoedown to celebrate the New Year. â€Å"Nah,† said Hugh. â€Å"Not much possibility of getting laid there. I'm setting off to a gathering one of my medical caretakers is hosting.† We wished him a cheerful new year and say goodbye to him. When he was gone, Roman went to me. â€Å"What about you?† he inquired. â€Å"Are you going to Peter's?† I realized Peter was depending on it, however it was difficult to cause myself to feel like celebrating. â€Å"No. I'm not in the temperament. Furthermore, I don't know I need to hazard running into Jerome since I'm certain Mei's going to inform him concerning the intrigue. I'll simply keep packing.† â€Å"Come on,† Roman said. â€Å"You can't simply lounge around this evening. It's another year . . . new chances. Possibly the opportunity to break free of Hell.† I gestured, however it was still difficult for me to envision what â€Å"breaking free† would even resemble. It was something we continued discussing, however I truly couldn't feel it yet. Furthermore, despite the fact that I'd talked a decent converse with Seth about how the respectability of the spirit and forever were quite a lot more significant than any natural concerns, everything appeared to be dreary without him in my life. â€Å"I know,† I told Roman. â€Å"But any observing I do will be constrained. In case I will be miserable, I'd preferably do it in a spot where I feel comfortable.† He looked at the clock. â€Å"Let's at any rate go out to supper. Spruce up and get a decent supper. At that point we'll return and watch all the New Year's shows.† I didn't have quite a bit of a craving however suspected on the off chance that I said no, Roman would relegate himself to a similar self-detainment as me. I didn't need his night demolished as a result of me, particularly in the wake of all that he'd done for this present week. One issue introduced itself. â€Å"It's practically five,† I said. â€Å"We'll never go anyplace without prior warning. Except if we need to spruce up for Taco Bell. Which I'm really not opposed to.† Roman was at that point going after his mobile phone. â€Å"I realize somebody who's a culinary expert at this Italian spot in Green Lake. We'll get a table.† Sufficiently sure. One baffling call, and we were on our way an hour later. I wasn't up for expound styling and basically shape-moved myself into New Year's delicacy, with an off-the-shoulder silk dress and my hair falling in immaculate waves. Roman had cautioned me â€Å"no black,† so the dress was dull purple, which despite everything appeared to be proper for

An Ode to Being Impractical in College

An Ode to Being Impractical in College Today, Ive been thinking about  how bizarre it is to be a senior and just how different I feel now vs. three years ago (when I was so freaked out about college move-in, I hyperventilated into a Jimmy John’s sandwich). Im older and wiser now, but I’m still great at imagining dystopian  versions of my future. The duality of man/college student is the capacity for both incredible calm and incredible panic. But Id like to preface this post with: If you’re not in college yet or new to it, you’re going be just fine. And if college is nothing new, then join me in a panicky sprint across the Quad. The slow-moving zombie of adulthood is creeping  just a little too close. (But I also have a sneaking suspicion well be just fine.) No matter which of these two camps you fall intoâ€"new to college or college savvyâ€"hear me out. This year, join an extracurricular or take a job or volunteer just because it sounds like fun. Not because it seems practical. Not because it fits perfectly into your ten-year plan or has a nice spot on your CV/resume. Just  for fun. You might be thinking, Hey, I do fun stuff! Cool, man. Im glad. But Im talking more making a commitment and less I went bowling last Friday, and it was a good time. Sophomore year, I decided that I needed to fill in my free time with something nice. I needed something beyond the classroom  that didn’t feel mostly like  a means to an end. I thought back to my babysitting days. I think kids are really cool little people. I enjoy hanging with them, and I always have. So I went to Quad Day and joined the Illini Mentor Program (IMP). Now I mentor every week of the school year, and I can honestly say it makes every week better. However, just because its fun doesnt mean its not  challenging. In these past few years, I’ve built  two totally different relationships with two totally different kids. One who didn’t like me very much, but who needed someone to listen to him and respect him. The other, again, not my biggest fan, but who thought my jokes were funny eventually. I have the distinct honor of being a part of their growing up. In turn, they remind me every week just how little I know (like, nothing) and how much more I have to learn (a lot). Having fun like this has always had distinct benefits, too. Its made me a better communicator with all sorts of people, not just kids. Im a better problem solver (because kids present you with a lot of problems to solve). And I  get  kids in a way I didnt before. They were just benefits I didnt expect. And I get it. Your time is valuable. Your time in college has a literal price tag. But you should fill it with at least one thing that you do just to feel good. When you make a commitment out of something you enjoy, I think you commit to being a better, healthier person. Plus, it might end up being the thing you always talk about in job interviews or the source of some of your best college memories. You deserve all the great experiences in college, so Im begging you, be impractical! Maggie Class of 2017 After starting my time at Illinois Undeclared in the Division of General Studies, I’m majoring in English and Economics with a minor in Informatics from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. I’m from the relatively small town of Manhattan, Illinois.

Theories of accidents W. H. Heinrich developed the Domino theory in 1931. He stated that 88% of the overall accidents were as a result of unsafe acts of people while 10% dangerous actions. 2% of the accidents were purely the acts of God. He also proposed a five-factor accident sequence which includes ancestry and social environment, work fault, unsafe act together with mechanical and physical hazards, accidents, and damage (Ork Ridge National Laboratory, 2016). Multiple causation theory, on the other hand, accounts that, for an accident to occur, there are various factors involved and working at the same time. Contributing factors include behavioral and environmental. Pure chance theory, on the other hand, educates that everyone working at a particular workstation is exposed to the possibility of being involved in an accident. Biassed theory states that once a worker takes part in an accident, there is a bigger chance that he will or will not be involved in another accident. Scholarly Voice And Writing Free Essays

Some people are aloof to read scholarly articles for the fear of not understanding them. They have this connotation that since the articles are written by those masters in the subject, they could not easily relate to them. Obviously, this notion about scholarly articles does not favor both the readers and the writers. We will write a custom essay sample on Scholarly Voice And Writing or any similar topic only for you Order Now While the readers will continue to elude such kind of writing, the writers on one hand will be limited in proliferating their messages. How could this scenario be avoided? Perhaps it is good to start in solving the problem about the misconceptions of scholarly writing. The writers of these articles could probably hold several degrees in their fields, but it does not mean that what they write are being understood only by those who are also in their same fields. At this point, the role of effective scholarly writing takes place. It is now the responsibility of the writers to convey their message using the most appropriate and effective manner of scholarly writing. What then are the criteria for effective scholarly writing and how does one achieve it? Effective scholarly writing could be best described as having an effective scholarly voice. What then is a scholarly voice? Scholarly voice is simply described as the voice that reflects one’s cognition about a topic. A person having a scholarly voice represents his full grasp on his subject. Because his audience could not see him, the way he wrote will define his voice. His writing is his own voice. Therefore, it is important to know how to have an effective scholarly writing. Scholarly writing is a kind of writing characterized by clarity, conciseness, and precision in words. By clarity it means that the writer should be able to express all of his thoughts in a clear, understandable manner. This could be achieved by following some tips. For example, relying on grammar, spelling, and writing style manuals would add to the clarity of the message. Being concise, on the other hand, could be achieved through giving the readers a comprehensive message. With comprehensiveness, it means that the message should not only be complete, but should reflect objectivity as well. A scholarly writing is based on solid evidence. Finally, preciseness in the use of words means appropriateness in language choice. As Professor Lilburn Hoehn has said, â€Å"Figure out what you want to say and just say it†. An effective scholarly writing is direct to the point and free from wordiness or puffery. Although there are criteria for effective scholarly writing, sometimes outside factors may affect a writer in his writing. One of these is the intended audience. A writer should be sensitive to the basic information about his intended audience—its demographics, its personality, and most importantly, its expectations and needs. As a scholar writer, one should know that his intended audience is mostly comprised of people of his same level of mastery. His writing should be strongly based on evidence because his intended audience is composed of critical and rational thinkers. Thus, the writer should know what he is writing about. It should be true and should matter to his audience. Having described effective scholarly voice and writing, it is now better for me to assess myself. I believe that one of my greatest assets is my keen sense for objectivity. Because of this, I am sure that I will be able to exude one of most important characteristics of effective scholarly writing—objectivity. However, I also believe that one of my weaknesses is being wordy with my writing. Knowing that my intended audience, I should try to eliminate this weakness and convert it to an asset. To do this, I believe that I should expose myself more to samples of scholarly writings. More importantly, practicing my writing skill is the best way to gain my goal. Gaining the skills to write a scholarly article using a scholarly voice seems to be a task hard to attain. While most people are accustomed writing and using layman’s terms, it is still not a valid excuse to elude from learning how to write in a scholarly manner. Play It Again Sam Analysis free essay sample

Play it again, Sam is an excellent production, by far one of Woody Allen’s best movies. It tells the story of Allan Felix, a neurotic New York film critic who is left by his wife, since according to her he is an ‘observer, not a doer’. This devastating event makes him fall into a deep depression; consequentially, he gets corporal aid from his married friends, Linda and Dick. However, this help appears not to be enough, Allan’s love life seems going nowhere until he creates a special connection with Linda, which leads him into her arms. My opinion about this movie being excellent is based on several facts, which can be easily appreciated when watching this extremely controversial film. The word ‘controversial’ should be emphasized when analyzing this movie, considering that the topics discussed in it were not commonly discussed or confronted in the mid nineties, time in which this film was released. We will write a custom essay sample on Play It Again Sam Analysis or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page This movie is considered polemic due to the obvious critiques towards the American’s daily life, which is achieved by mentioning different subjects such as, dependence. This theme is represented in a different way depending on the character we focus; with Allan, this topic is represented by the deep depression he falls into, which follows him though all the film. When focusing in another character, Linda in this case, her dependence is shown by her pill addiction. Finally Dick, he is a workaholic, his dependence takes him to the point when he starts comparing his love to his wife with an ‘economical investment’. These characters decide to depend on something so it is easier for them to be secure and comfortable, ignoring the problems surrounding them and escaping from reality. Stereotyping is another main theme in this movie. When Dick asks Allan how he liked women, he describes a model type ‘Skinny, blond, good breasts’. This stereotype of perfect women is a consequence of the idol worshiping so characteristic of us, human beings. We all have someone we follow. An actress, singer, model, etc. someone we relate ourselves with or because we want to overcome something we don’t like about ourselves, we always use someone as a reference and Allan is not the exception. Allans character is a Humphrey Bogart-obsessed film writer that has abundant imagination. Bogart himself appears as an apparition to give Allen advices. Allan: I cant do it. How does it look? I invite her over and then come on like a sex degenerate. What am I, a rapist? Bogart: Youre getting carried away. You think too much. Just do it. Allan: Were platonic friends. I cant spoil that by coming on. Shell slap my face. Bogart: Oh, Ive had my face slapped plenty of times. Allan: Yeah, but your glasses dont go flying across the room. The reason why Woody Allen sets the title ‘Play it again, Sam’ is because it is originally a quote from the film Casablanca, and as I already said before the main character is obsessed over this movie (Casablanca) and the main character of it. Not only the apparitions of imaginary characters and dependence on drugs and self unconformity but how music is applied to the film shows how Allan is trying to escape from reality and place himself in a romantic Bogart movie. Every time he has a date, he turns on the music volume really loud so that the atmosphere is more movies like or factionary. We can appreciate this all over the movie and mostly at the end when he quotes the ending of Casablanca. Finally, trying too hard is the last main topic. Allan is always trying too hard for everything, making things tougher for himself and being clumsy. This is a quote from the movie demonstrating what I just stated, Allan: What are you doing Saturday night? Woman: Committing Suicide. Allan: What about Friday night? This character is always trying to fit in, we can appreciate in a scene on the movie the night after his wife leaves him that he goes to a pub and takes a drink but he doesn’t really likes it, he is juts doing what most of the men do trying to be normal. In conclusion, I believe this is a great movie, considering that it is not only hilarious; but it is fascinating how the different elements used by the film director Herbert Ross such as, music, effects, lights and place set; creates a perfect atmosphere for each of the scenes. Also, the actors chosen were all brilliant choices and how every character has its own meaning, contributing a special and unique theme to this classical film. This movie is one of my favorite oldies.

Demanding, Demandable, and In Demand

Demanding, Demandable, and In Demand Demanding, Demandable, and In Demand Demanding, Demandable, and In Demand By Maeve Maddox This may be chiefly an ESL phenomenon, but confusion exists concerning the use of the adjective demandable. My attention was drawn to the topic by this email: I am an English teacher [from Turkmenistan]. I know English pretty well; however, I confuse the words â€Å"demanding† and â€Å"demandable.† Can you help me to distinguish those words? â€Å"He has a demandable character.† Or, â€Å"he has demanding character, or characteristics?† The OED defines demandable as â€Å"That may be demanded or claimed.† Merriam-Webster defines it as â€Å"subject to being demanded.† Here are examples of the correct usage of demandable: A bank at the time of levy was entitled under state law to set off against the balance in the delinquent taxpayers checking account only those debts owed to the bank by the taxpayer which were liquidated and demandable at the time of the levy. But the BIR argued the tax debts have become demandable and collectible, as [the debtor] has been ignoring a final assessment notice sent to him. Judicial power includes the duty of courts of justice to settle actual controversies involving rights which are legally demandable and enforceable. Errors with demandable occur when the word is used to mean demanding, desirable, or in demand. Here are examples of misuse: INCORRECT: My demandable father was never satisfied. CORRECT : My demanding father was never satisfied. A person who makes severe or difficult demands on others is said to be demanding. For example, one might have â€Å"a demanding employer,† â€Å"a demanding coach,† or â€Å"a demanding spouse.† One may also speak of such things as â€Å"a demanding profession† or â€Å"a demanding competition.† INCORRECT: [A gift of] jewelry is the best way to impress your loved one because it is one of the most demandable and loved product of the girls. CORRECT: [A gift of] jewelry is the best way to impress your loved one because it is one of the most wanted and loved product of girls. The syntax is still awkward, but desirable or wanted fits the context better than demandable. INCORRECT: Climate control system, effective air conditioner, powerful engine and many other features have made it one of the most demandable cars. CORRECT : Climate control system, effective air conditioner, powerful engine and many other features have made it one of the cars most in demand. Something or someone needed, wanted, or sought after is said to be â€Å"in demand.† If your intended meaning is â€Å"difficult to please† or â€Å"difficult to accomplish,† use demanding. If your intended meaning is â€Å"wanted† or â€Å"sought after,† use desirable or in demand (or wanted or sought after). Save demandable for a context in which one party has the legal right to demand something from another. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Introduction to Online Teaching for English Teachers

Introduction to Online Teaching for English Teachers There has been huge growth in opportunities for online teaching for ESL/EFL teachers over the past few years. Heres a quick overview of the current situation, exciting opportunities in the pipeline and tips on sites that are currently offering online teaching possibilities. Online Teaching as an Independent Contractor Most online teaching opportunities provide work as an independent contractor. What this means is that there are no set hours and you can work as much or as little as you wish. Of course, thats also the catch- often there is little work to be had. The upside is that online teaching generally allows you to set your own prices on these services. Establish a top reputation in online teaching, and you can ask for a higher rate. Competition In the world of online teaching, there is a lot of competition, which sometimes leads to fewer hours. However, things are changing rapidly and more and more students are finding their way to the variety of online teaching venues. Here are some of the main sites that currently offer an online teaching opportunity: VIPKID: VIPKID focuses solely on teaching English online and handles all the lesson plans and client communications. Available to teachers from the U.S. and Canada, VIPKID has an application process that involves a mock lesson. Teachers that perform well will have a higher base salary. VIPKID offers additional bonuses and incentives. iTalki: This site started off as a place to find speaking partners in various languages via Skype. Now, its grown to include online teaching services in English. Online Teaching as an Employee There are a few companies that offer opportunities for paid online teaching positions. Of course, the competition is more intense for these positions, but the pay is steady. If you are an experienced teacher, comfortable with technology, would like to take advantage of online teaching, but desire a fixed schedule this is probably for you. The best place to look for one of these positions is TEFL.com. Creating an Online Teaching Business There are a number of teachers that have set up their own online teaching businesses over the past few years. A number of these businesses seem to be doing well. Youll need the ability to think like an entrepreneur (this includes marketing yourself, networking, developing contacts, etc.) If this appeals to you, it could also be the most lucrative online teaching arrangement - but it is hard work and can take quite a while to build up to the point where you have a steady stream of English learners. Basic Requirements To successfully participate in online teaching youll need to be able to do a few things well: Use technology with ease. Make sure that you dont waste students time while you learn the technology. This sounds quite obvious, but it is often a problem.Create a few lesson plans that focus on online teaching. Youll need a game plan for online teaching. Its not the same as teaching in a classroom.Spend some money on good technology for your online teaching. These days gadgets are cheap. Make sure to invest in a good camera, headphones and microphone. Youll also need a computer that can handle video/audio streaming so make sure you have enough RAM!Willingness to promote yourself. If you would like to compete with other teachers as an independent contractor, youll need to promote yourself through your profile, blog, YouTube, etc. Currently, students dont just show up and they have lots of choices. There are many preparations to make before you begin online teaching. This guide to teaching online will help you deal with the most important technological considerations. Finally, if you have had any experience with online teaching, please share your experiences so we can all learn.

Political Science Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Political Science - Essay Example They do not have to get intervention from state regarding taxes, tariffs, enforced monopolies and restrictive regulations. (laissez-faire principle; sourced from www.wikipedia.org). It is a fortunate one for private parties to be free from such matters, but for the citizens there are still taxes to be paid. Taxes would not be a big deal for people as long as they can afford to pay. Of course, it is determined from how stable their economic conditions sourced from their incomes. What has happened is that The United States taxes its citizens more lightly and as a result less money to be used for social programs. There is comparison since most west European countries spend more money on social programs. From the economic factors, it can be analyzed that when The United States government has decided to reduce its citizens` taxes, there might be economic instability. It can be seen mostly after war in Iraq (2003) that The United States economic condition decreases slowly and life conditio n of its people had not been as comfortable as it was used to be. Furthermore, the global crisis that has happened in recent times has an impact too. The United States citizens cannot afford certain levels of life standards like they used to have. The condition can be observed from how stagnancy occurred to mortgage and many banks were closed that makes more people become jobless. The tax reduction has been a relieving fact for The United States citizens, but since it gives impact to the social programs, a consequence prevails. In this case, social programs are ways for those who are unfortunate to get help and even have better living. When the money for the social programs is reduced, some people do not get benefit anymore. Analyzing this matter from the political side, basically it is not far from what happens in the economic factors. A political instability might occur when economic condition falls down moderately. For example, when the jobless number rises higher and higher, the re must be a shock therapy for its political condition. People would like to be frank to the government that an action to decrease problems is absolutely needed. Even though The United States has its â€Å"American Exceptionalism† which had made them be the strongest as ever, but as Barack Obama – the president of the United States – mentioned that â€Å"I see no contradiction between believing that America has a continued extraordinary role in leading the world towards peace and prosperity and recognizing that leadership is incumbent, depends on, our ability to create partnerships, we create partnerships because we can’t solve these problems alone†. (Barack Obama – April, 2009). It can be analyzed that although comparisons among countries are acceptable to be observed, but like The United States instability is also being influenced by the whole worlds. An agreement must be put to Obama`s statement that every country in this world should gat her to find solutions to any problems; including how to maintain the running of social programs in this global crisis situation. Cultural factor could be the least impact but also the unfortunate one to face this American Exceptionalism. Culture is the whole unity to define people and their origin. Culture has more to be shown to express people’s happiness. The very basic culture that American people have is Thanksgiving celebration. (Once again, it is needed to emphasize that the tax reduction does not always

Qualifications & Selection Process for Judges in Illinois & Florida Essay

Qualifications & Selection Process for Judges in Illinois & Florida - Essay Example The candidate should also have a record of good behavior and integrity as well as capable of communicating both in spoken and written English. On condition that an individual does not meet the above named qualifications then it means that he or she is not eligible to vie for any judiciary position in the state of Illinois (Sara, 2005). The judiciary of Illinois consists of the supreme, appellate, and circuit courts. The judges are first elected through partisan elections where they are capable of serving ten year terms but on condition that there exist a vacancy on the court; then a supreme court appointment is necessary. The other serving justices have the role of electing the chief justice of the court where he serves for three years only. As for the appellate courts in Illinois, the conditions are similar in exception of the condition that the chief justice is only supposed to serve for one year term. The chief justice in circuit courts serves an indefinite term but the judges can serve a six year term (Charles & Maule, 2003). Judges in Illinois can be dismissed from work through an inquiry from the judicial board after complains are launched by the commission of the court. After a hearing, the commission has the authority to suspend or completely dismiss a judge from tenure if he or she is found to have acted in a substandard manner. Alternatively, judges can also be dismissed from work through a majority vote from the House of Representatives as well as a majority of two thirds of the senate vote (Sara, 2005). In Florida, the judicial system consists of four levels and in our case study we are going to limit our research on the first level; the level of a County Court Judge. To qualify for the position of a County Court Judge in Florida, an individual must have been a member of the Florida Bar for a period of not less than five years in addition to the fact that he or she must be a member of the county he or she is vying for to serve even

Short And Long Run Aggregate Supply Curve Economics Essay

Short And Long Run Aggregate Supply Curve Economics Essay Aggregate supply is the total supply of goods and services produced within an economy at a given overall price level within a specified time period. It is represented by the aggregate supply curve during a given time period that shows the total supply of goods and services that the firms are willing to offer to the economy during a specified time period at a given overall price levels. Normally, there exists a positive relationship between the aggregate supply level and the price levels upon which that annual supply curve has been made. Aggregate supply function of the economy is also referred to as total supply of the economy as shows the total supply of goods and services that the firms are willing to supply at given price levels. It also shows the capacity of the firms of the economy and the fact that the firms can supply the economy with the appropriate level of goods and services in order to satisfy the demands of the economy. Aggregate supply curves are made on the basis of long and short term which depicts the total supply function of the firms of the economy both in the long term and in the short term for the economy. There can be some shifts in the aggregate supply curve for the economy which can be attributed to number of different factors and variables affecting the economy. These factors can be many some of which may be the change in the size and quality of labor, the mere fact that the labor size has changed that is more and more labor is available to the firms for the production of their goods and services or that the labor which is already available to the economy has gained more and more skills due to which it has become easier to produce more for the economy. Other factors can be the change in technology or it can be said that the technological innovations can cause a shift in the aggregate supply curve of the economy.   Increase in wages, increase in production costs, changes in produce r taxes and subsidies, and changes in inflation can also be some of the driving factors in the shifting of the aggregate supply curve for the economy. Different schools of thoughts have different views of economics and therefore they have different approaches towards the determining of aggregate supply of the economy that is to be made to the economy. Aggregates supply is the function of aggregate availability of labor and other resources in the given time period and the price levels for the production of those goods and services that provide the aggregate supply of those goods and services to the economy. Short Run Aggregate Supply Curve Supply side of performance of the economy is the main determinant of the aggregate supply of the economy. Short run aggregate supply depicts the productive capacity of the economy and the costs of production of each sector. There may be a shift in the aggregate supply cure and this can be caused by the following factors: Changes made in the supply size and quality of labor force that are available to the economy. Changes in size and quality of capita stock through investment. Technological progress and the impact of innovation. Changes in the productivity of factors à ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬ both labor and capital. Changes in the wage costs per unit .i.e. wage costs per unit of output. Changes in producer taxes and subsidies. Changes occurring to the inflation expectations. Arise in inflation expectations are likely to boost wage levels and in affect cause the aggregate supply curve towards the inwards shift. Long Run Aggregate Supply Long run aggregate supply is determined by the productive resources available to meet demand and by the estimated productivity of factor inputs that are Land, Labor and capital. There is a clear distinction between the short run and long run aggregate supply cures. In the short run aggregate supply curve is dependent on the price levels for a particular output and therefore increase in price levels affects the supply of goods and services in the economy whereas it is not true for long term aggregate supply as they are thought to be independent of price levels in the long term. The productive potential of the economy in the long run is mostly driven by the improvements to be made in the productivity levels and by the expansion of the available factor inputs. Expansion of the available factor inputs can be made through the realization of more firms, a bigger and much better capital stock and an increase in the number of skilled labor force etc. due to these reasons long run aggregate supply curve is made vertical on the graphs. The classical model of economics defines the aggregate supply curve as being a vertical line at the full employment level of real production. The early Keynesian view describes the aggregate supply curve to be a parallel curve to the horizontal axis .i.e. a horizontal curve. It shows that the price level will remain same over the time period and the firms will have to manage their supply according to the available price level prevailing in the economy. The newer Keynesian view describes the aggregate supply curve in the two aspects .i.e. fixed money wage and variable money wage. According to the newer Keynesian view aggregate supply curve is the upward slopping curve at different wage levels for the economy. The supply side school of thought in the economics define the aggregate supply of the economy based on the fact that the aggregate supply is affected by the quality of labor and that the much higher prices are paid to the more skilled labor as compared to the less skilled or unskilled labor.

The Negative Effects of the Fashion Industry on Eating Disorders

ENG 150 18 October 2012 The Negative Effects of the Fashion Industry on Eating Disorders While it’s fashion week in London, the size â€Å"zero† models start to prepare for the big show by purging to be as thin as possible. Most models starve themselves in order to achieve the â€Å"waif†, stick-thin figure; it becomes so addictive, almost like second nature that it further leads to serious eating disorders. From recent studies, today’s model weighs about 23% less than the normal woman. Clearly, most models do not depict the average woman. Men and women all over the world follow the influences that the fashion industry provides. They believe that the fashion industry depicts on what society should be acknowledged as, picture-perfect thin. Most models look like they had descended from heaven, but in reality they live in a sad world where body image is what is considered beautiful and they would do just about anything to achieve it. Society is also taking a n ose dive into this self-deprecating environment, where it is definitely not healthy for a person to develop and thrive. As Naomi Hooke, anorexia survivor, acknowledges, â€Å"Anorexia has often been perceived as a quest for model-like beauty . . many anorexics detest their bodies,† she then further goes into detail how this industry became her downfall (3). These waifish models on the runway cause major damage in the well-being of many, as well as their own; they create body image complexes that haunt women forever. Yes, the fashion industry is well known for the classic thin models, although in the 1950’s models symbolized the beauty of the average woman, full figured and all, but today’s models should not depict to an individual on what they should be perceived to look like, yet it happens every day. When a victim of eating disorders views a model, they think, â€Å"Why am I so fat? Why don’t I look like her? What do I need to do to look like that? â₠¬ The confidence and the self-worth of these victims start to fall short, although some begin to find solutions to their problems. According to Paul Casciato, of Reuters. com, almost 9 out of 10 teenage girls said they feel pressured to be skinny by the fashion industry and media. A large contributing factor to this problem is that many people in the fashion world encourage the use of overly thin models in editorials and fashion shows. For example, as Kathryn Shattuck, What's On Today: [The Arts/Cultural Desk], mentions that Kelly Cutrone, world renowned fashion publicist, encourages, â€Å"Clothes look better on thin people. The fabric hangs better† (1). The fashion industry’s emphasis on being thin and its use of extremely underweight models in unacceptable. Many people would agree that the fashion industry plays the majority role in eating disorders, but Lisa Hilton, British Vogue writer, disagrees. Hilton argues, â€Å"Its objective is selling clothes, and the co nsensus remains that in order to achieve this, models need to be thin . . Fashion is about fantasy, about impossibility, about, dare we say it, art. Most women can’t tell the difference† (1). Hilton condescendingly continues to refute the criticisms that models are too thin and the fashion industry encourages eating disorders. More recently, Sports Illustrated model, Kate Upton whom is a size 4, is now considered a plus size model and deemed to be â€Å"too curvy†. In the United States the â€Å"normal† sized woman is between the size of 6 and 10. Most of us do not understand why some put themselves through so much anguish to satisfy these body image complexes.Back in the 1950’s, models were absolutely glamorous, they were healthy and had meat on their bones. The average height of a model is 5’10† and weighs approximately 120 pounds whereas the average women with a height of 5’10† weigh about 145 pounds. This is a significa nt and disturbing difference. As Hooke emphasizes, â€Å"Sufferers are often presumed to pore over the pages of glossy magazines and starve themselves in their aspirations to become glamorous, thinner-than-thin sex goddesses,† she then concludes how the industry destroyed her life.Women give in and fall into temptation, but why? These â€Å"normal† women are beautiful they way they are, but in fashion terms, they are considered morbidly obese in comparison. As Holly Brubach, New York Times Magazine journalist, argues, Models starve themselves the way football players take steroids, jeopardizing their health and longevity for celebrity and wealth. More surprising, perhaps, and certainly no less alarming, is it the realization that dieting as become so commonplace that the skeletons on the catwalk simply strike us as more expert than the rest of us (1). As Brucach further describes how the fashion industry and their models compel everyday women to give up meals, she also observes that the Internet provides sufferers starvation tips. Commonly called promote anorexia, or â€Å"pro anas†. There are many blogs and forums that pro anas flock to for tips. One teenage girl professed, â€Å"Splurged and had 7 grapes, I can’t believe it. I cannot eat tomorrow. Please send skinny thoughts my way! † Another pro ana, calls herself MelancholyMiss states in forum Lard Ass Rant Time, â€Å"Starting to feel that swimmy feeling in my head again . . . I'm trying to tell myself I need to eat a little something so I can have some energy. No, my hard work won’t go to waste. I’m spinning, spinning down into the depths of self loathing, misery, isolation. † What these women go through on a day to day basis is just horrendous. It’s truly sickening. What drives these sufferers is beyond most.Isabelle Caro, a French model and actress who became the international face of anorexia when she allowed her ravaged body to be photogra phed nude for an Italian advertising campaign to raise awareness about the disease. Italian fashion label, Nolita, had photographed Caro at 26 years old weighing only 59 pounds. When Caro was featured on an episode of Taboo on the National Geographic channel, she claimed that she tried getting help but in her line of work, it was not possible and that if she gained weight she would lose her job.Neil Katz of CBS News, describes the billboard as, â€Å"[Her] face was emaciated, her arms and legs mere sticks, her teeth seemingly too large for her mouth† (2). In Katz’ article, Caro confirms, â€Å"I decided to do it to warn girls about the danger of diets and of fashion commandments† (1). In 2006, she reached the weight of 52 pounds. She sank into a coma and after months of extensive care she reached weight of 93 pounds. Although the major effort put into changing her life around, she was still remained in crucial health. Her body could not handle the major back and forth transformation that her body failed and died. She died at only 28. In her memoir, The Little Girl Who Didn’t Want to Get Fat, her dying wish was to raise attention and eliminate anorexia and other eating disorders. There are numerous ways to change the fashion industry’s negative reputation. The Council of Fashion Designers of America has created the CDFA initiative, which is implementing certain designers and magazines to fix said problem. The CFDA’s ideas include offering models that have been identified as having an eating disorder to seek professional help and not be able to work without a medical consent. Other ideal solutions include supplying healthy foods during photo shoots and shows; also educate models about eating disorders. Although, these solutions seem ideal, but won’t become obsolete. There must be harsher regulations where healthy women, of certain weight requirements, can become models. This industry must defend its reputation and e nd the horrible habit of girls starving themselves to look like unrealistic and photo-shopped

Substance Abuse Treatment Instead of Incarceration Essay

Across the United States and throughout the world there is an epidemic of epic proportion involving drug addiction. Here in North Carolina the majority of the Department of Corrections inmate population is known to have substance abuse problems.
